San Marcos is part of the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos metropolitan area in Texas. It sits on the corridor of Interstate 35 between San Antonio and Austin, serving as the seat of Hays County. The population grew substantially between 2010 and 2015, with estimated populations of 44,894 and 60,684, respectively. The city is one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in America and is located on the banks of the San Marcos River. Its climate includes mild to cool winters without much snow and hot, humid summers.
When visiting San Marcos, learn more about the 36th President of the United States at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum. The city has two major outlet malls for shopping and plenty of places to eat. The Calaboose African-American Museum is another popular attraction, with exhibits dedicated to the local history of African-American residents throughout the years. Explore the Wonder Cave, or take a stroll at Five Mile Dam Park, located on Blanco River.
During a trip to San Marcos, you can find a number of IHG hotel options in the city as well as in the surrounding areas. Enjoy a relaxing, homelike atmosphere at one of the all-suite properties, which might include fully equipped kitchens and separate living areas.
San Marcos is about 26 miles from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, offering domestic and international flights to the area. The city does have its own municipal airport, albeit without as many flight options. Within San Marcos, public transportation is available through the Capital Area Rural Transportation System.
