Pasadena is the 17th most populous city in Texas. You might not think it has any connection to the Californian city of the same name, but that's not true. In the late 1800s, John H. Burnett, a resident of Galveston, Texas, named this destination after the one in California. He did so after noticing the city's plentiful green spaces. Another interesting thing about Pasadena is that it has the largest municipal volunteer fire department in the country.
If you're ready to enjoy some of the same kind of greenery Burnett might have noticed, plan to go to the Armand Bayou Nature Center. It's a protected area where you can wander around the sprawling grounds or go on a canoe trip with a guide. Eager to learn more about local history? Consider going to the San Jacinto Battleground State Historic Site. It features an obelisk from 1939 plus a museum that details some of the happenings associated with when Texas achieved independence from Mexico.
Numerous options exist when it comes to figuring out where to stay in Pasadena. The city is less than a half hour from Houston, and many of the accommodation choices are near the interstate that'll take you to that Texan city. Alternatively, consider staying in Deer Park, a place sometimes referred to as the Birthplace of Texas because of its involvement with the state's freedom from Mexican governance.
You can reach Pasadena via Interstates 45 and 610 if driving. Also, the nearest train station is in Houston but only about a 15-minute drive from Pasadena. Coming by plane? Houston's Hobby Airport is closest, about 20 minutes southeast of Pasadena.
