Little Rock is the capital of Arkansas and serves as the county seat of Pulaski County. It sits on the south side of the Arkansas River. Its name comes from a unique rock formation on the river that French explorer Jean-Baptiste Bénard de la Harpe called “le petite roche.” Little Rock is the state's most populous city, with nearly 200,000 residents. It is a major government, cultural, transportation and economic center of the South. The climate is characterized by hot, humid summers and mild winters.
If you're visiting Little Rock with kids, pay a visit to the Little Rock Zoo, which houses all types of exotic animals and features a train. Another top attraction for families is Magic Springs and Crystal Falls, an amusement park with water slides and other rides. Explore the natural area at Pinnacle Mountain State Park, which has several scenic hiking trails, an arboretum and a visitor's center. Learn more about the 42nd President of the United States at the Clinton Presidential Center.
Little Rock is home to several IHG hotels, each offering a long list of appealing amenities for a more comfortable stay while you're away from home. Choose a hotel downtown to stay close to many of the top attractions. Some hotels offer a free hot breakfast each morning, while others offer indoor swimming pools and fitness centers.
The Clinton National Airport offers domestic flight service to Little Rock. Rock Region Metro provides public bus transportation. The downtown area is also served by the Metro Streetcar system.
