Georgetown is a small city in Texas that's about 27 miles north of Austin. The city is called the Red Poppy Capital of Texas because of the red poppy wildflowers planted throughout the area. It's also home to the Red Poppy Festival, which brings around 30,000 people to the area every year.
Along with the festival, you can also head to Georgetown to explore the Inner Space Cavern. This multi-level cave, which was discovered in 1963, is one of the best preserved in the state. Head out on the adventure tour with a cave guide and you'll walk along paved and lit walkways to see some of the stunning formations and learn the unique history of the cave.
Another popular outdoor area in the city is Blue Hole Park. This picturesque lagoon sits on the South Fork of the San Gabriel River. There are wading areas where you can go swimming, picnic areas, and public restrooms. With several walking paths, it's also a good spot for a stroll.
When you need a place to stay in Georgetown, you'll find hotel options that go from mid-range to affordable. Several of the mid-range options offer contemporary rooms and the best comforts from home. The budget-friendly options give you a relaxing place to stay that fits within your travel budget.
To fly to Georgetown, you'll need to book your flight into Austin–Bergstrom International Airport, which is about 40 miles south of the city. If you're interested in driving to Georgetown, Interstate 35 runs directly west of the downtown core.
