Teotihuacan is an enormous archaeological site in the Basin of Mexico, containing some of the largest pyramidal structures built in the pre-Columbian Americas. Apart from the pyramidal structures, Teotihuacan is also known for its large residential complexes, the Avenue of the Dead, and numerous colorful, well-preserved murals. The site covers a total surface area of 83km² and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. It is one of the most visited archaeological sites in the World.

The Xochimilco canals, all that's left of the extensive chinampas, are now a popular tourist attraction. With its network of canals, artificial islands and vibrant gardens historic Xochimilco is well worth a visit. Jump on one of the colourful Trajineras (Mexican style gondolas) and they will propel you along the canals while you listen to music from mariachi and marimba bands on neighbouring boats.

Visit the Modern Art Museum on the corner of Reforma and Gandhi Av. One of the most important modern art galleries in the city.

Walk around the fascinating outdoor picture exhibition on Reforma and Gandhi Av. You will find themed paintings on the walls of the Benito Juarez Children Centre.

Parque Lincoln is great for walking or jogging, and for the temporary exhibitions at 'La Casita'.

You can easily while away two hours in Chapultepec Zoo. Founded in 1923, it is home to more than 2000 animals. Entry is free.

Dating back to 1693 the Mexican government palace sits on the site of Monteczuma's residence. Inside you'll find a collection of murals painted by Diego Rivera. One particularly famous mural condenses two thousand years of Mexican history. Admission is free.

Inside the park you will find a circuit called 'La Milla' where the local people go to jog. Open from 5am to 5pm.

If you are looking for the main shopping brands from New York, don't forget to visit this Avenue. Also a good place to stroll along and people-watch.

The Anthropology Museum, the Rufino Tamayo Museum, the Modern Art Museum and the National History Museum are all within walking distance of each other and will give you a very detailed and accurate insight into Mexico's colourful history.
