Things to do

Cathedrale Saint-André

Place Pey-Berland, Bordeaux, 33000

The Pey-Berland Tower was during a long time one of the tallest buildings in the city. Unfortunately, a storm in 1617 ripped out the rostrum and this was replaced with a cross. In 1853, a huge tenor bell was attached to the belltower's beams. Weighing 11 tonnes, it is the fourth largest in France. You need a good pair of lungs to walk up the 229 steps to the top of the tower (50 metres), but this is well worth the effort because the view of Bordeaux and and its monuments is outstanding.

The Miroir d'Eau

Place de la Bourse, Bordeaux, 33000

Located across from Place de la Bourse, this spectacular pool designed by landscape artist Michel Corajoud alternates a mirror effect and artificial misting in an extraordinary way. The rhythmic changes in 2 cm of water on a gigantic slab of granite make this location truly magical. Children adore playing here and it is a meeting place for lovers as well as people who enjoy putting their feet into the cool water in summer!

CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art

7 Rue Ferrere, Bordeaux, 33000

Bordeaux has one of the richest collections of modern and contemporary art in France. Housed in a building imbued with history, the modern art museum offers a choice venue for the works it displays. Whether you are a modern art enthusiast or simply someone who likes to admire all beautiful things, the CAPC is a must during your stay in Bordeaux!

Jardin Public

Jardin Public, Bordeaux, 33000

The Jardin Public combines the famous honey-coloured stone of stately 18th century buildings with a relaxed setting in which a pond is surrounded by centuries-old trees. The garden is much appreciated by people who enjoy a walk, joggers, children, and grandparents, who coexist in complete harmony. The Jardin Public has been dear to the hearts of the Bordelais since its creation in 1746. A veritable "green lung" in the city centre, the 11 hectares of grass, trees and flowers.

Arcachon Bay

Arcachon, 33000

At the gate of Bordeaux, discover the Arcachon Bay with the dune du Pyla, the highest sand dune in Europe. The Bay offers magnificent scenery of the Birds Island and its huts built on stilts. The Lège- Cap Ferret peninsula is composed of stunning landscapes and huge beaches.
