Fairmont is a city in Marion County, located in the north-central part of West Virginia. The population is 18,622 residents as of 2016. In terms of land, it isn't a very big city, with a total area of 9 square miles. With its proximity to Canada, cold winds can blow in during the winter, resulting in freezing temperatures that often fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Despite Fairmont's size, IHG has several hotel properties for visitors to choose from, offering comfortable accommodations at reasonable prices.
One of the top attractions in the Fairmont area is Pricketts Fort State Park, which commemorates life on the Virginia frontier in the 18th century. It opens in mid-April and closes for the season at the end of October. Admission is free, although certain attractions within the park do charge a fee. Learn more about the area at the Marion County Historical Society, which also has a museum with a collection of diverse artifacts from past centuries.
Because Fairmont is a small town, anywhere you stay offers easy access to most of the local attractions. Visitors can also find lodging outside the city limits in some of the surrounding communities. Hotel options include properties with single guest rooms as well as those with suites, offering a home away from home feel with separate sitting areas and kitchenettes.
The closest airport to Fairmont is North Central West Virginia Airport, located 17 miles away in Bridgeport. For those driving into the city, Interstate 79 offers a direct route.
