Chattanooga is a city in southeastern Tennessee that's situated at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and sits along the banks of the Tennessee River. The city is known for its revitalized riverfront, thriving arts scene and scenic beauty.
To get one of the most picturesque views of the city, you need to head to Lookout Mountain. Take the incline railway to the summit and step out on the observation deck for incredible views of Chattanooga and the surrounding area. While you're visiting Lookout Mountain, be sure to take some time to see Ruby Falls, which is the world's tallest underground waterfall. Then head to Rock City Gardens, which offers a view where you can see seven different states.
Back down in Chattanooga, the Tennessee Aquarium is an exciting attraction everyone will enjoy. In the River Journey exhibit, you can see creatures that include alligators, giant freshwater stingray, river otters and an electric eel. Head to the Ocean Journey exhibit and you'll see sharks, turtles, jellyfish, octopus and more.
Chattanooga offers a great variety of hotel options. You'll find modern and luxurious hotels right in the heart of downtown. If you're interested in budget-friendly hotel options, head either south or west of the downtown core for a good variety of choices.
If you're looking to fly into Chattanooga, the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport is situated 8 miles east of downtown Chattanooga. If you're driving there, Interstate 24 runs south of the city and U.S. Highway 27 and 41 cut right through the center of the city.
