Fort Hunter Liggett, named after General Hunter Liggett in 1941, is located in southern Monterey County, California, about 250 miles north of Los Angeles and 150 miles south of San Francisco.

Take a drive to the Pacific Coast via Nacimiento-Fergusson Road; one of Central California's most gorgeous roads. This windy 24.5 mile rollercoaster of a scenic drive gives way to beautiful views of the Pacific Coast and surrounding mountain range. Although the road is paved, it is not recommended for travelling late in the day, during inclement weather or for RVs and heavy vehicles.
When planning a visit to Fort Hunter Liggett, be sure to plan extra time for exploration. There are numerous hiking opportunities such as breathtaking Cone Peak in the Santa Lucia Range and the Pinnacles National Park in Soledad. In addition, wine tours & tastings are readily available a short distance away in both Southern Monterey and Northern San Luis Obispo Counties.
There are three historic California Missions within a short distance that one should visit prior to leaving the area. On Ft. Hunter Liggett you will find Mission San Antonio de Padua to the north off Hwy 101 is the Soledad Mission and to the south off Hwy 101 you'll find Mission San Miguel. All three provide a unique look back into the state's past.
When traveling to Ft Hunter Liggett, be mindful of wildlife, especially deer, elk and wild boar as they cross the roads unexpectedly especially in the evening and early morning hours.
